Cooperstown

One of Gary's lifelong dreams was realized when the Nelson clan made their way to Cooperstown, NY and the National Baseball Hall of Fame. In all honesty, Gary was the most excited member of our family before the trip but it was truly a trip for all of us.

Cooperstown is located in picturesque upstate New York. It is not too far from the Catskill mountains among rolling hills that must be magnificent in autumn. Being in the Village of Cooperstown is like stepping into a Norman Rockwell painting. The Hall of Fame is on Main Street and is unassuming as it blends into the architecture of the street.

We started our trip with a stroll down Main street and dinner at quaint Doubleday Cafe. After a swim in the hotel pool, we hit the sack in preparation for the history filled day that awaited us.

Gary was so excited on the day of The Event that he was driving me absolutely crazy. We parked in a great spot, thanks to the advice from our hotel concierge, and arrived at the HOF immediately after opening. We started our tour with a short film that encompasses the nostalgia and wonder that is baseball to any little boy.

We made our way through 2 of the 3 floors before taking a brief break for lunch (restaurant not worth mentioning). After the respite, we toured the Hall of Fame Gallery where Daniel, Noah and I spent some time on cushy benches while Gary perused the plaques at his own pace. During the tour of the museum, the boys worked on a scavenger hunt of sorts, which they turned into the bookstore for a complimentary pack of baseball cards. To this I credit Daniel's answer to the question, "Did you like the Hall of Fame?"..."It was awesome!!"

Daniel, I concur!
