The Simple Things

I felt the need to reflect on the events of Saturday, May 23, not because they were extraordinary, but because they were ordinary.

The morning started as each Saturday morning during this baseball season begins for us: Early morning baseball practice for each of the boys. Nothing extraordinary about that but there is something about the crack of the bat, the worn in glove and the hope of victory to come that makes baseball practice a tradition to be treasured.

After Daniel and Noah returned home and changed clothes, it was off to shop for summer sandals. Both were in need of flip flops and "church" appropriate sandals. Both criteria were not able to be fulfilled with one-stop shopping so that task will continue another day.

A not-as-quickly-as-planned trip to Wal-Mart for weekend groceries commenced and for once, the trip to "the dark place" as I call it, was pleasant and laughter-filled.

We returned home for another quick change into swimsuits and off to opening day at the pool we went. The boys spent a solid 3 hours zooming down the corkscrew slide, inventing new jumps off the diving board, playing with friends and having a fun-filled time in general. Mom soaked up the sun (yes, we had on sunscreen), talked with a friend and thoroughly enjoyed observing her precious babies having a blast.

We came home to shower and change again and left the house once more for a short drive down I-75 to a little town called Bluffton. In this quaint bedroom community lies a movie theatre which harkens days even Mom does not remember. We paid our $3 admission (for a 7pm showing), our $5 for a large popcorn and 2 large drinks (yes, you're reading that correctly) and settled in to watch "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian".

Upon final credits, we returned home where the boys took their nightly showers and nestled into their beds.

The only thing that could have made this day any better was if Daddy could have joined us. Unfortunately, he was away on business but with us in spirit.

An ordinary day to be sure, but one that made memories nonetheless.

What a great, ordinary day.
